Rambunctious and unpredictable, action-comedy 30 Minutes or Less manages to be simultaneously cynical and softhearted, which is quite a trick. A disgruntled pizza delivery guy named Nick (The Social Network's Jesse Eisenberg) gets his life hijacked by two dimwitted yet canny thugs (Danny McBride and Nick Swardson), who need $100,000 to hire a hit man--so they strap a bomb to Nick and order him to rob a bank. So many little twists and turns follow that it would ruin the fun to describe the plot any further; suffice it to say that 30 Minutes or Less takes a high-concept idea and grounds it in well-written characters, an outstanding cast, and some brutally funny bits. But what really makes 30 Minutes or Less so sympathetic is not the buddy relationship between Nick and his best friend Chet (Aziz Ansari from Parks and Recreation), though that's thoroughly enjoyable--it's the buddy relationship between the two would-be hoodlums that holds the movie's heart. McBride has stolen scenes in dozens of comedies now; his ability to be a complete, unrepentant lummox and yet shimmer with charisma is unmatched. Swardson (from Reno 911!) miraculously matches McBride's comic chutzpah. They are ridiculous and surly buffoons, and they are a delight. --Bret Fetzer

The story of a pizza delivery boy who is forced to rob a bank by two thugs who strap a bomb to him, much has been made about how the film bears a remarkable similarity to a real-life, more tragic story from a few years ago. The creators have vehemently denied this story served as inspiration and while the true story may have provided the kernel of an idea for the screenwriters, the rest is taken in a substantially different, some may argue disrespectful, direction.Jesse Eisenberg, fresh off his Oscar-nomination for The Social Network, plays Nick, a 20-something pizza boy who spends his days smoking pot and failing to deliver pizzas in the "30 minutes or less" timeframe the pizza... There seem to be far fewer people who disliked Zombieland compared to those who enjoyed it. Zombieland was quite entertaining though; its cast was incredibly well-rounded, it offered a new spin on a story we've seen dozens of times before, and most of all it offered humor and sharp wit during what is otherwise the end of the world; a time when you least expected it. Zombieland was something special. However, 30 Minutes or Less seems like a completely different type of comedy. The trailers lead you to believe it could go either way; one way being extremely hilarious and the other ending with you kicking yourself because you didn't just wait to rent it.
